Monotypic. Plumage varies, where non-breeding head/neck are "variably streak grayish-brown and the bare parts are duller". THe month ranges provided on BOW are...too broad (e.g., OCT-AUG). Juvenile also have wide range (4!) for first several years. M/F similar.
