Monotypic. Plumage varies, male non-breeding (Sep-Jun) and female non-breeding (Sep-Apr). M/F differ, with female browner with white patch at base of bill and males darker. Male eyes are "brilliant yellow" and female are olive to brownish yellow (per BOW).
