0ISSF. Red Grouse split out in 2025 but was an ISSF before. Plumage varies, with non-breeding of both m/f all white and breeding varying (see M/F notes). M/F differ, with nominate male in breeding being white on lower portion of body and nominate female more scaled brown. Subspecies differ somewhat in coloring.
